Sunrise walk above Tinchuley
Walk with a torch before dawn from your Tinchuley homestay to a viewpoint above the village, watch the sun rise over the Teesta and Rangeet valleys and the snow peaks to the north, and return through the waking village for breakfast.
Tinchuley is a small village of farming families and homestays a few kilometres from Takdah. Its high points face east and north. Leave about 40 minutes before sunrise; your host will show you the path, which climbs through fields and patches of forest to a clearing or rock outcrop.
On clear mornings the sun rises over the Teesta valley, lighting the river mist far below, while the snow peaks to the north catch the first pink light. Even on hazy days the layers of ridges are beautiful. You may share the viewpoint with a few other guests but rarely a crowd.
Walk back slowly through the village as households start the day: fires lit, cows milked, children heading to school. Ask before photographing people. Breakfast at your homestay is usually puri, eggs or roti with vegetables and tea.
