Day hike to Triund ridge
Climb about 900 m from Galu temple above Dharamkot to the open ridge of Triund at roughly 2,850 m, with the Dhauladhar wall in front and the Kangra valley behind. Steady, well-trodden and the classic hike from McLeodganj.
Most hikers walk or take a taxi to Galu Devi temple above Dharamkot, where the trail begins. From there it is about 6–7 km to Triund on a stone path that zigzags through oak and rhododendron forest, with tea shops at intervals. The last section, sometimes called the 22 bends, is the steepest. Fit walkers reach the top in 3–4 hours; take more time if you are coming straight from the plains.
Triund is a grassy ridge at about 2,850 m. On one side the Dhauladhar rises sharply to the snow-streaked rock of the main ridge; on the other the Kangra valley falls away to the plains. In spring the forest is red with rhododendron. Some walkers continue another hour or two to the Snowline café area near Laka Got for closer views, but that adds time and should only be done in clear weather.
Overnight camping at Triund has been restricted at times by the forest department and the administration. Rules change, so check current status before you travel. Leave nothing behind: carry all plastic down. Weather turns quickly here, and the ridge is exposed to lightning in thunderstorms, so turn back if clouds build fast. In winter the upper trail can be icy; go with a local guide.

Questions
Before you book
How difficult is the Triund trek?
Moderate. It is about 6–7 km one way from Galu temple with roughly 900 m of climbing, on a clear stone path. Fit beginners manage it in a day. The final bends are steep. Good shoes, water, a rain jacket and snacks are essential.
Can I camp overnight at Triund?
At times overnight camping has been allowed through registered operators, and at other times it has been banned by the authorities. The rules change from season to season. Check current status before you travel, and never camp on the ridge in thunderstorms.
Is Triund safe for solo women?
Yes in daylight; the trail is busy with hikers and tea-shop owners. Start early, tell your guesthouse your plan, and avoid descending after dark. In poor weather or winter, hire a registered local guide. Keep your phone charged; signal is patchy.
