Pony ride from Doodhpathri to Mujpathri
Mujpathri is a small hamlet on the bank of the Shaliganga beyond the main Doodhpathri meadow. A pony ride there and back crosses quieter grassland and forest edges, and is a good option for families or anyone who cannot walk far at altitude.
Pony owners gather at the main meadow with a board of official rates for set destinations, including Mujpathri and other viewpoints. Agree the route, the waiting time and the price before mounting. Most ponies are led by a handler on foot, so even nervous riders can manage.
The ride crosses rolling meadow, dips into pine forest and follows the river to Mujpathri, where a few herders' houses and grazing grounds sit beside the water. There is little infrastructure; the point is the quiet and the views. Climb down and walk a little to stretch your legs.
Wear long trousers and closed shoes. Children should ride with a handler holding the bridle and an adult close by. Tip the handler a little if the service was good. In wet weather, the paths turn muddy and slippery; consider walking the lower meadow instead.

Questions
Before you book
How much does a pony ride in Doodhpathri cost?
Rates are fixed by the tourism authorities and posted at the pony stand, usually ₹600–1,500 depending on distance. Mujpathri return sits in the upper part of that range. Always confirm the route and total before starting.
Is the pony ride safe for children?
Generally yes on led ponies, with the handler holding the bridle and an adult walking alongside. Avoid letting children ride alone on steep or wet paths. Ask for a calm pony and a short circuit for very young children.
Can I walk to Mujpathri instead?
Yes. It is a pleasant walk of a couple of hours return from the main meadow for fit walkers. Ask locals for the path along the river, wear good shoes, and return before late afternoon.
