Baba Harbhajan Singh Mandir
Stop at the shrine honouring Harbhajan Singh, an Indian Army soldier who died in this area in 1968. Soldiers posted on this frontier treat him as a guardian spirit, and visitors leave water bottles and offerings to take home blessed.
The shrine lies on the road between Tsomgo and the Nathu La, at around 4,000 m, and is managed by the Indian Army. A newer memorial building with a small museum stands by the road, and the original bunker site is further up. Inside, his uniform, boots and bed are kept as if he were still on duty, and the regiment honours him in its own traditions.
Visitors come from across India, and many leave bottles of water at the shrine to be collected later and taken home as blessed water. There is often a small canteen run by the army, with tea and snacks. It is a place of respect for soldiers and their families, so keep voices low and follow any instructions from staff.
Most Tsomgo trips include the shrine, either on its own or with the Nathu La. The permit covers it, but access depends on the day's road and security situation. Dress warmly; the wind here is strong in all seasons.

Allow 6–8 hours from Gangtok, leaving around 7 am and returning by early afternoon. Adding Nathu La takes a little longer.
