Shared jeeps run from Almora towards Kausani and Bageshwar through the day, most frequently in the morning. Ask at the taxi stand near the main bus station. If you are going to Bageshwar, the jeep will pass Kausani and can drop you on the ridge.
Buses from Haldwani and Almora to Bageshwar stop at Kausani. They are cheap and reliable but slower, and seats fill on market days. Check the time of the last bus, usually in the early afternoon.
A taxi allows a stop at the Katarmal sun temple, about 17 km from Almora with a short walk, and at Someshwar's fields. It is the best choice with luggage or for seniors.
