Zostel Leh
Zostel's Leh hostel offers dorm beds and private rooms within walking distance of Main Bazaar, with a common area where solo travellers find shared taxi partners for Nubra and Pangong. It suits students and backpackers resting their first two days at 3,500 m.
Zostel is one of India's best-known hostel chains, and its Leh property follows the usual pattern: mixed and female dorms, a few private rooms, a cafe or common kitchen area, and staff who can point you to bike rentals, permit agents and shared jeeps. Being close to the town centre matters in Leh, because for the first 48 hours you should not be walking far or climbing much.
Expect hostel standards: shared bathrooms in dorms, hot water that may depend on solar heating or set hours, and power cuts that are normal in Ladakh. The common area is the main reason to stay. In June and July many travellers post on the board looking for people to share a car to Pangong or Tso Moriri, which can cut your costs by half.

Questions
About Zostel Leh
Does Zostel Leh have private rooms?
Yes, alongside dorm beds it has a small number of private rooms, some with attached bathrooms. They fill early in June, July and August, so book ahead online. Prices change with season and demand.
Is Zostel Leh good for acclimatisation days?
Yes. It is close enough to Main Bazaar that you can eat and shop without long walks or taxis, and the common area is a comfortable place to rest. Ask for a lower-floor bed or room for your first night if you can.
Is Zostel Leh safe for solo women?
Zostel generally offers female-only dorms in its larger hostels, and Leh is considered one of the safer destinations in India for solo women. Check the current room types when booking, keep valuables in a locker, and use registered union taxis at night.
