Sunrise over Machapuchare from Sarangkot
Drive or walk up to the Sarangkot ridge before dawn and watch the sun hit Machapuchare, Annapurna South and Dhaulagiri. It is Pokhara's most popular morning for good reason, and quiet enough if you walk a little away from the main viewpoint.
Sarangkot is a ridge just north-west of Phewa Lake at about 1,600 m. In the dark, taxis climb from Lakeside to the parking area below the main viewpoint in about 30–40 minutes. Fitter walkers can take the stepped trail from Lakeside in 1.5–2 hours. Either way, be at the top 20 minutes before sunrise with a warm layer.
From the viewpoint, the panorama runs from Dhaulagiri in the west, over the Annapurna peaks, to Machapuchare's twin summit almost directly ahead and Lamjung Himal to the east. Below, the lake and city sit in morning mist. The main platform fills with people in peak season; walk a few minutes along the ridge for space.
After sunrise, have tea at a ridge cafe and walk down through the village. Sarangkot is also where Pokhara's paragliders launch from mid-morning, so stay on if you want to watch or fly. Clear dawns are most likely from October to February.

Questions
Before you book
How do I get to Sarangkot for sunrise?
Book a taxi the night before from Lakeside; it takes 30–40 minutes. Or walk the trail from Lakeside in 1.5–2 hours, with a torch.
Which mountains are visible from Sarangkot?
Dhaulagiri, the Annapurna peaks, Annapurna South, Machapuchare and Lamjung Himal on clear days.
Is Sarangkot sunrise worth it in April?
Sometimes. Spring haze often blurs the view after the first light. October to February is much more reliable.
