Chamba Camp Thiksey
The Ultimate Travelling Camp's summer camp near Thiksey Monastery, about 19 km up the Indus from Leh. Large furnished tents with private bathrooms, a dining tent and attentive service, facing one of Ladakh's most photographed gompas.
The Ultimate Travelling Camp runs seasonal luxury camps in India, and Chamba Camp Thiksey is its Ladakh camp, set up for the summer months near the village of Thiksey. Each tent is large and furnished like a hotel room, with a proper bed, private bathroom and heating for cold nights, and the camp has a dining tent and lounge.
The location is the point: you can be at Thiksey's morning prayers within minutes, and Hemis, Shey and Stakna are all close. It sits at roughly the same height as Leh, so the usual two lazy days on arrival apply here too. The camp generally runs from late spring to early autumn; dates and packages change, so check current status before you travel.
Why we use it
- Minutes from Thiksey's morning prayers
- Hotel-standard tents with private bathrooms
- Close to Hemis for festival days

Questions
About Chamba Camp Thiksey
When is Chamba Camp Thiksey open?
It is a seasonal camp that usually runs from late spring to early autumn, roughly May to September. Exact dates change each year, so check current status before you travel and book early for Hemis festival dates.
Are the tents at Chamba Camp heated?
The tents are designed for Ladakh's cold nights, with heating and warm bedding, and each has a private bathroom. Nights still fall to near freezing in early and late season, so bring warm layers for evenings outside.
Is Chamba Camp a good base for acclimatisation?
Yes. It is quiet, at about Leh's height, with meals on site, so you can rest without going into town. Thiksey is a short drive for gentle morning outings. Still plan two lazy days before going higher.
