A Tibetan family owns and runs it, and it has hosted travellers for decades. The building rises over several floors; rooms are simple, with wood details, desks and attached bathrooms, and upper rooms look north towards the mountains on clear days.
The hotel has a restaurant, a tour desk and a common living room with books, which suits travellers who like to swap notes in the evening. It is a reliable comfort-tier option for travellers who want location and warmth of service rather than luxury. Like most of Darjeeling, it is not centrally heated; ask for heaters or extra blankets in winter, and book early for October and May.
