Budget Homestay village · Langza, Hikkim and Komic
Langza homestays
Langza's farming families open their homes to travellers at about 4,420 m, below the Buddha statue and Chau Chau Kang Nilda. Rooms are simple, dinner is home cooked, and the village goes silent after the day cars leave. Sleep here only after two nights in Kaza.
Langza has a cluster of family homestays, and staying in one is the best way to see the fossil village without a crowd. Rooms are in the family's flat-roofed house or a newer annexe: thick blankets, a bed or floor mattresses, and attached or shared bathrooms. Dinner and breakfast are usually included, often rice, dal and vegetables, with thukpa or tingmo when the family makes them.
This is the highest night most travellers spend in Spiti, so treat it with respect. Come up after at least two nights in Kaza, walk slowly, drink plenty of water and avoid alcohol. If you get a worsening headache, vomiting or breathlessness at rest, go down to Kaza that evening. Do not collect fossils from the slopes; the village council asks visitors to look and photograph only.

Questions
About Langza homestays
How do I book a homestay in Langza?
Most families take walk-ins in season, and your Kaza host, hostel or taxi driver can phone ahead. In July and August, ask a day in advance so a room is ready.
Is it safe to sleep in Langza at 4,420 m?
For healthy travellers who have spent two nights in Kaza, usually yes. Do not come straight from Manali. If symptoms worsen, descend to Kaza that evening, and talk to your doctor before the trip.
Is there mobile signal in Langza?
Signal is patchy and depends on the network and the weather. Tell family you may be out of contact for the night.
