Wildflower Hall, An Oberoi Resort, Shimla
An Oberoi resort at Chharabra, about 13 km beyond Shimla at roughly 2,500 m, on the site of Lord Kitchener's former residence, surrounded by deodar and oak forest. Quiet, polished and one of the best hotels in the Himalaya.
Wildflower Hall stands on a ridge at Chharabra, above Mashobra, where Lord Kitchener, Commander-in-Chief of the Indian Army in the early 1900s, had his country residence. The original building was later destroyed by fire, and the Oberoi group rebuilt the property as a resort in a style that recalls the colonial original. It is surrounded by cedar forest with long views over the ridges towards the snow peaks.
The resort is designed for staying in rather than rushing out: forest walks start at the gate, there is an Oberoi spa, and the restaurants serve Indian and international food. Shimla's Mall is about 40 minutes away by car for a day visit. Prices are high and rise further in summer and holiday weeks. Book directly on the Oberoi website for current rates and packages.
