Zostel Bir
A Zostel hostel in Bir, close to the paragliding landing fields and the Tibetan colony, with dorms, private rooms and a common area full of pilots, meditators and backpackers. Simple, friendly and good value.
Bir has become a long-stay base for paragliders, meditation students and remote workers, and Zostel's property here caters to all three. Dorm beds and private rooms are simple and clean, and the common spaces are where people arrange tandem flights, share taxis up to Billing and plan walks to monasteries. The hostel is within reach of the landing site, the colony cafés and the tea gardens, so you rarely need transport within Bir.
Like most Zostels, it is social rather than silent, though Bir itself is calmer than Manali or Kasol. Staff can help connect you with registered paragliding operators; always check the pilot's licence yourself. Book ahead for October and November weekends, which are peak flying season. In the monsoon, from mid-July to mid-September, flying stops and the hostel is quieter.
