Padma Lodge, Jispa
A popular comfort stay on the Bhaga river at Jispa, 22 km beyond Keylong. Wood-finished rooms and riverside tents, a restaurant used to Manali–Leh road trips, and a calm setting at 3,200 m. A good first or last night above 3,000 m on any Lahaul or Chandratal trip.
Padma Lodge has served travellers on the Manali–Leh road for years, and it is one of the best-known stays in Jispa. Rooms are wood-finished and warm, with attached bathrooms, and in summer the lodge also offers tents by the river. Meals are taken in the restaurant, where bikers, families and road-trippers swap notes on Baralacha La and the Chandratal road. Ask for a river-facing room when you book.
Jispa's altitude, about 3,200 m, makes Padma Lodge a sensible place to acclimatise before Chandratal or the higher passes. Walk the riverbank in the morning, visit the small Jispa gompa, and keep the day light. The lodge is seasonal; Lahaul's hotels largely close from about November to April. Check current status before you travel and book early for July and August.
