Ways to save in Arunachal
- Book shared Sumo seats a day ahead at the Tawang, Ziro or Aalo Sumo counters; a front seat costs a little more but is worth it on long hill days.
- Apply for your Inner Line Permit online before you leave home; the tourist e-ILP is cheap and saves a half-day queue at a check gate.
- Homestays in Ziro, Dirang and Mechuka usually include dinner and breakfast, which can halve your food spend compared with eating in town.
- Share a reserved taxi for the Tawang day circuit to Sela and the lakes with other travellers from your guesthouse; the vehicle price is fixed, not per head.
- Travel in March, April or November rather than late October and late May, when Tawang hotel rates and taxi demand peak with holiday crowds.
- Carry enough cash from Guwahati, Tezpur, Itanagar or Dibrugarh; ATMs in Mechuka, Miao and smaller towns can run dry, and the detour to find one costs more than the fee.
