Apatani homestays, Ziro valley
Family homestays in the Apatani villages of Hong, Hari, Hija and Siiro are the best way to stay in Ziro: wooden rooms, home cooking around the hearth and hosts who can walk you through the fields and clans of the valley.
Dozens of Apatani families in Ziro's villages host guests in their homes or in small guest buildings beside them. Rooms are wooden and simple, with heavy blankets for cold nights; older houses usually have shared bathrooms and bucket hot water, while newer homestays add attached bathrooms. Dinner and breakfast are cooked at home, often rice, smoked pork, bamboo shoot, greens and pike pila.
We use homestays for saver and comfort trips alike, choosing better-built rooms for comfort travellers. Hosts can arrange village guides, taxis, forest permission for Talle Valley and Sumo seats out of the valley. Around the Ziro Festival of Music in late September, homestays book out months ahead, so reserve by June.
