Dirang Boutique Cottages
A small riverside property across a hanging bridge on the Dirang river, with cottages in the style of Monpa shepherds' huts and farm food. It is our usual comfort stay in the Dirang valley.
Dirang Boutique Cottages lies by the river a short drive from Dirang town, reached on foot over a suspension bridge. The cottages use stone and wood in the manner of the huts built by Monpa herders, and the garden and orchards run down to the water. Meals are home-style, using vegetables and fruit from the farm when in season.
It suits travellers who want quiet and character rather than a big hotel. Dirang Dzong, the hot springs and the National Research Centre on Yak are short drives away, and Sela Pass is about 2 hours up the road. Cottages are limited, so book early for October and spring, and expect cold nights in winter.

Dirang
Dirang is a Monpa valley town at about 1,620 m on the Tawang road, 42 km beyond Bomdila. It is the best place to break the journey: warmer than Tawang, full of orchards, with an old stone dzong village, riverside hot springs and the Sangti valley 15 km away. Spend 2 nights, or 4–5 for a slow trip.
