The LaLiT Grand Palace Srinagar
The former Gulab Bhavan, a summer palace completed in 1910 for Maharaja Pratap Singh, set in large lawns with chinar trees above Dal Lake. Restored and run by The LaLiT group, it is Srinagar's grandest place to stay.
Gulab Bhavan was completed in 1910 as a summer residence for the Dogra Maharaja Pratap Singh, overlooking Dal Lake from the slopes of the Zabarwan in eastern Srinagar. Its stone facade with a colonnaded verandah mixes European palace details with Indian planning. The palace became a hotel in the 1950s and was restored and extended later, taking its present name in 2008.
Stay in the palace wing for heritage rooms or the newer wing for modern comforts. The lawns, among the largest in the city, are shaded by old chinar trees, which turn red in October. It suits signature travellers, honeymooners and families who want space and calm, close to the Boulevard and the Mughal gardens.
