Zostel Srinagar
A backpacker hostel in the Nishat area, a short walk from the eastern shore of Dal Lake, with dorm beds, private rooms and a rooftop looking over the lake. It is the easiest social base in Srinagar for students and solo travellers.
Zostel Srinagar sits in Nishat, near the Mughal garden of the same name and about a five-minute walk from Dal Lake. It offers dorms and simple private rooms, a common area and a rooftop terrace with views across the water to the Hari Parbat side of the city. The location is quieter than Dal Gate and close to the Mughal gardens, though you will need autos or cabs to reach the old city and Lal Chowk.
It suits solo travellers, students and young couples who want company and local tips without paying hotel rates. Expect hostel standards: shared bathrooms in dorms, limited food, and a relaxed crowd. Book ahead in April to June, when beds fill quickly, and confirm heating if you visit between November and March.
