Ways to save in Spiti & Lahaul
- Take the HRTC bus from Manali to Kaza (about ₹400–600) instead of a shared taxi seat (about ₹1,200–1,800); it leaves around 5 am in season.
- Women travel at half fare on HRTC buses within Himachal Pradesh, which halves the cost of a bus circuit; check current status before you travel.
- Book homestays with dinner and breakfast included (₹1,200–2,500 a person); Kaza cafes charge ₹300–600 for a meal.
- Split a Kaza taxi for the Key, Kibber, Langza, Hikkim and Komic loop between four people and it drops to about ₹1,000–1,500 each.
- Travel in the first half of June or in September: room prices fall by a quarter to a third compared with July and August.
- Fill a steel bottle with filtered water at homestays and cafes in Kaza; it saves money and keeps plastic bottles out of a valley with no landfill.
